À propos de htpasswd
Generate bcrypt or SHA-1 entries
The generated line is a credential verifier for an Apache-style password file, not a password manager or account system. Choose the strongest format accepted by the server and protect the file and the transport used to install it.
Comment utiliser cet outil développeur
- Enter a username and a test password, then choose the server-compatible hash format.
- Generate the entry and verify that it contains the expected username and prefix.
- Install it only in an authorized environment, protect the file, and test authentication over HTTPS.
Confidentialité et traitement des données
Username and password inputs are hashed locally in the browser and are not intentionally uploaded. Use a test password during exploration and never reuse a production credential in a public tool.

Questions fréquentes
Can I recover the password from an htpasswd entry?
No. The entry contains a password verifier, not the original password. A server checks a future password against the stored hash.
Should I use SHA-1 for a new deployment?
Prefer bcrypt or the strongest format supported by your server. SHA-1 entries may be needed for legacy compatibility but are not a good default for new systems.
Does the entry secure the connection?
No. Basic Authentication must be used over HTTPS, and the password file must be protected with correct filesystem and deployment permissions.
